New Laundry Room Art

A couple weekends ago I bought some new 'art' for the laundry room.  I thought it could look cool to have a collage of vintage laundry stuff.  Here's what we started with.

This week at good ole Hobby Lobby all wall decor was 50% off.  So we bought four more signs.  The most I paid for one was $4.50!  Sweet!  This is what we have so far.

I've also found a sign that says: Laundry Room, Drop your pants here.  I love it...hilarious!  Maybe I'll crack and order it.  I'll keep you updated on any other additions to the laundry room.

Closet Organizing

A couple weeks ago, I was tired of the disarray in my closet.  More specifically my side of the closet.  I wish I'd taken more pictures (I really have to get better at that!).

Here is my side after I'd taken the mess off the top shelf.

Here's my mess on the floor...of course it's mostly shoes.

Scarves and shoes that need to be organized and put away.

Shirts that didn't make the cut for outfits laying on top of the shoes.

Purses and scarves neatly put in to homes.

Clothes nicely put away on hangers rather than on top of shoes.

No more piles on the floor.  Plus it's nicely vacuumed.

And one big bag of clothes delivered to Goodwill.  Ahh organization.  Have you been organizing anything lately?

Weekend Recap 3/19-20

This weekend Husband and I went to my first Spring Training game.  Since my family in Texas are all huge Rangers fans and they did so well last season, they were my choice to go watch.  Admittedly I am not a baseball fan, but I felt like Spring Training should be on a Phoenix bucket list.

I was hoping that I would be able to get some sun...but it was unseasonably cool and overcast.

The Rangers were playing the Mariners.  After being ahead until the 8th inning, they gave up trying and the Mariners ended up winning.  Bummer...

And we saw this awesome dude with an awesome visor with the awesome fake hair.  It was awesome!!

Sunday we met some of my sorority sisters for lunch.  They're in town visiting for their first weekend of Spring Break.  It was lots of fun, especially since I met one sister I'd never met before, but she'd heard of me.  The legacy of being Greek is so great!  After lunch we went to see "The King's Speech".  What an extraordinarily good movie!  So glad it won an Oscar along with Colin Firth.

Hmmm...maybe for my next weekend recap, I should take more pictures.  I'll work on it.  Anyways, how was your weekend?  Do anything exciting?
Hope you have an awesome week!

Happy Pancake Day

An English tradition I picked up is to celebrate Pancake Day on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday (or Mardi Gras or Shrove Tuesday).  Last year I made crepes with a mushroom and spinach filling and buttermilk pancakes for dessert.  I thought my crepes were delicious, but Husband thought otherwise.  So this year I went the cheater route and bought this.

And here's a tip, you probably already know.  Your pancakes are ready to flip when they have bubbles popping in the center.  It makes sense, but I had never thought about it that way.

So here is our dinner for Pancake Day.  Hope you had a great Tuesday and Happy Lenten season to you!

An Awesome Weekend

Sometimes Husband and I have a habit of doing so much on a weekend that it doesn't become restful at all.  So, last weekend we made a plan to stay at home all weekend and just watch movies and be with each other and no one else.  This was especially nice cause the weekend before I was in Denver and Husband went hunting with his Papa.  And then the week following Husband had to be in Alabama for work.  So the time together was that much more special.

During our little movie marathon we watched:

It's Complicated
This was the second time that I've seen this movie.  And I still think it's hilarious!
***

Top Gun
Confession:  This was the first time I've seen this movie.
***

Casablanca
This was the first time Husband had ever seen this movie, and the fourth or fifth I've seen it.  I love it!  Such a classic!!!
*****

The Prince of Persia
First time for both of us.  Husband likes the video game, but we both agree it sucked!
*

The Missing
Would it be silly to say one of the reasons I like this movie so much is because it was filmed entirely in my homestate?  First time for the Husband and we both thought it was great!
****

Princess Bride
Confession:  Another first for me.  I know, I must have grown up in a cave.  Cute movie, and I enjoyed the quirky characters.
****

Outsourced
First time for both of us.  It was funny, but not super fantastic.
***

Completed with the Oscars.

We built a little bed in front of the TV.  We ate pizza, popcorn, and Girl Scout cookies.  Ok, so it may not have been the most healthy weekends, but it was awesome!

$20 Well Spent

Last week I shared with you our first sale on Craig's List, and now I have something even more exciting to share with you.  Our first purchase from Craig's List.

Isn't it beautiful?!  It was on sale for $20 from a guy about 15 minutes from our house.  Living in Phoenix, that's saying something.  We brought it home and I immediately got working.  First I wiped it down with some bleach water.  Who knows what this guy was like! ;-)

It also looked like there had been stickers in some spots.  I soaked those with water and then gently scraped them off.  Easy squeezy!  After it was dry, I sanded it down.  Husband was nice enough to follow my sanding and wiped everything down again.

My next step was to stain it.  I used the leftover stain from this project.  And then it sat there to dry.  And lucky for me it was colder than it should have been in Phoenix, so what should have dried in about 24 hours took more like 72 hours.

So mid-week I used a super fine sandpaper to sand it down a little in between coats.  Then I started in on the second coat.  Luckily it was still colder than it should have been and I had to wait another 72-ish hours for it to dry.

While I was waiting for the stain to dry, I headed to Hobby Lobby to look for some new knobs for the drawers.  I wish it had been one of those awesome weeks when their knobs are 50% off, but it wasn't and I was too impatient to wait.

These are what I found.  While I was there I got some pretty wrapping paper to line the drawers with.

And after patiently waiting for the second layer to dry I put on the new knobs and lined the drawer with my nemesis, Spray Adhesive.  I was going to put Mod Podge as a protective layer, but it just wrinkled the paper and made it look dumb.

Anyways here's what the dresser replaced.

And here is the final product.
I'm so totally in love with this dresser.  Never mind that I spent more on the knobs from Hobby Lobby than I did on the dresser itself, I think it is beautiful.  And since this was my first furniture project and my first purchase from Craig's List, I think it is just awesome!

Two Twelfths Complete

I have now completed two twelfths (or more commonly referred to as one-sixth) of the Bible.  I am still super pleased and proud of myself.  I am still going at least once a week to Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf after work on Tuesdays to read.  I am still journaling about what I'm reading.  I'm still using Bible Study Tools.  And I'm still really enjoying spending that time in God's Word.

I have now completed:
*Genesis
*Exodus
*Luke
*Hebrews

My Springy Table

I'm not really much of a bird person.  I saw Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" when I was seven sleeping over at a friends house (Mom, just pretend you didn't read that, since I was allowed to see "R" rated movies till I was 17).  But I've noticed they are super popular this year.  I found this table cloth at Target for $8 and some change and oddly enough I kinda loved it.  It works for Spring and doesn't remind me of a black and white horror movie at all.

Tablecloth:  Target ($8 ish)
Placemats: Target ($1.98/mat)
Silver charges: Goodwill ($2.99/charger)
Dinner/salad plates: my grandmothers
Napkins: Dillard's ($1.80/napkin)
Vases: IKEA from our wedding
Roses: from Husband for Valentine's Day

And just for fun here are some close-ups on the tablecloth, so you can see for yourself how much it doesn't resemble a Hitchcock film
