Lesson 124- Mini Cake Plate

Last time I went thrifting I found these...

I used the candle for this project and the vases were used for this project.  So all I had left were the little plate and the matching cup.  Immediately when I saw these on the shelf at Goodwill I knew what to do with them.

I put a little Gorilla Glue around the rim of the cup.

I put the plate upside down on the counter then the cup upside down on the plate making sure to have it centered.

Gorilla Glue works best with some weight while it dries, so I put the heaviest book we own on top.  I allowed it to dry over night.

Once I was satisfied that it was completely dry, I took the book off and flipped it over.  My favorite thing about the plate is the edging.  I can add ribbon to it to update it for different seasons.

Lesson 84- Goodwill Goodies

Last week I had the opportunity to go thrifting with my MIL (why I wasn't at work isn't a topic for discussion, sorry :-) Anyways, I IM'd her to see if she would be up for the adventure.  I picked her up after my dentist appointment and we headed to the Goodwill that is just a few blocks from her house with our coupon's in hand.

Now thrifting with my MIL is WAY different than thrifting with the Husband.  Remember in this post he was kind enough to go with me and to return the favor I spent very little time perusing the store.  But this time we spent a good three hours browsing.  Oh, the things I found!!!  Here, let me share them with you.

These are the fall decorations: 2 scare crows,  and a table runner

These are the Christmas decorations: peppermint candles (still in the packaging), a snowman soap dish (at least that's what I think it is), and a penguin candleholder (again, that's what I think it is)

A set of 6 placemats and 4 napkins

Four silver chargers and 4 mason jars

Another candle, 2 clear candlesticks, white plate with goblet-looking thingy

Stay tuned for projects involving the mason jars, candle, candlesticks, and white plate with goblet-looking thingy.

One thing I love about Goodwill is buying things to transform in to something else.  Or deciding what its purpose is when it's not always completely obvious.  And people say our imagination deteriorates as we get older.  Oh yeah!  I also bought a pair of gym shorts and PJ pants, but they're currently chillin' in the dryer.

Now the downside of having the ability to stay for three hours is you wind up spending about the three times the money.  Oops!  Lucky for me Husband wasn't upset.  Man, he's a good catch.  And I'm very thankful that he doesn't get upset with me too often for my spending habits.

Lesson 72-Treasures Found

Remember the saying one man's trash is another's treasure?
I've discovered how true that can be.  I'm fairly new to the thrifting scene.  And to be perfectly honest, it wears me out!  A few weeks ago I wanted to run by Goodwill but I didn't want to spend a lot of time.  I should also mention I was out with Husband, and I'm assuming it's true for most husbands that Goodwill is pretty much the last place they want to be on a Saturday afternoon.  But he's a good sport and chilled on the couches till I was done.  And I was good and only spent about 20 minutes there.  Here's what I came out with

I don't remember the break-down of everything, but the grand total was $20.67.  I was most excited about the four gold chargers for $2.99.  Pretty sure Hobby Lobby sells one charger for that same price.  Can't wait for Christmas now!  And the candles were turned into this project.  The seashell and vase ended up in our bathroom (don't worry, you'll see where soon).  And the hat-form-thingy was something Husband picked out.  It now lives in our laundry room.
