Our Addiction

Confession: Husband and I have a serious addiction.

A couple of weeks ago...we splurged a little and bought one of these

And now we are officially addicted to this game.  ADDICTED!

It brings out the worst in me.  I'm not one to use curse words, however this game get me swearing like a sailor.  But it's fun...now if only I could control my mouth!

My Bed is Calling My Name

I have a confession to make.  Sometimes I like to go to bed super dooper early.  And tonight is looking like one of those nights.

Sure I could cook up the ground turkey in the fridge that we took out of the freezer yesterday.  Or I could put the laundry away that's sitting in dryer.  Or I could pick up the throw pillows up off the floor that Montana has knocked off of every sofa.  Or I could make the bed in the guest bedroom.  Or I could hang the new curtains we bought at Target yesterday.  Or I could put away the Christmas decoration stragglers still lingering around the house (I think that qualifies as a freebee confession). Or, or, or...

But none of those sound better than crawling under the covers, turning the TV on and falling asleep.  And I just squeezed in another confession: when Husband is out of town I have to fall asleep with the TV on.

Goodnight pals.  Sweet Dreams!

Lesson 117- Marriage Casualties

Confession: Husband and I are klutzy!

At the end of last month was our one-year-aversary.  And I thought it might be fun to look back at all the things Husband and I have broken over the year.

The first casualty of our marriage was our unity sand vase.  I don’t even thing we had been married a week before I broke it.  It was a dumb mistake.  I was trying to fix the floor lamp and leaned it over, either forgetting there were things on the shelves or forgetting the law of gravity—I’m not sure which.  In any case, down came the vase, full of sand and our beautiful symbol of our unity in God and I broke it!!!  I was horrified and immediately called Husband at work in tears.  He assured me that it was not a sign that our marriage would break.  After he calmed me down, I spent the next 10 minutes vacuuming sand off our carpet.  This was the most tragic of our marriage casualties.

Next was Husband’s fault.  We have beautiful crystal glasses that were wedding gifts from my friend C in Florida.  I love them!  One night husband was filling up the glass with ice and for some reason pushed it up to the ice dispenser on our fridge door with such force that it made abcrack all the way down the glass.  And in to the trash went the glass and we were left with an odd 7 glasses.

Not too much longer after this, Husband was walking down the hall and knocked one of our picture collage frames right off the wall.  Another wedding gift went crashing to the ground.  At least we had registered for two of those frames, right?

Then we were blessed to go a few months without any casualties in our house.  Thank goodness!  While we were making our headboard, Husband knocked off a vase from the bookcase.  This was part of the first Christmas present he ever gave me and was a one-of-a-kind piece from our friend R who makes pottery.  It sat on a stand that was a replica of the base of the Eifel Tower.  Now I just have the stand…

And our most recent casualty happened when I was re-organizing our kitchen.  I placed our French press (of course, another wedding present) on a shelf in a cabinet not realizing that it was too tall to fit on the shelf.  When I opened the drawer above the cabinet, it knocked the French press right on to our tile floor causing it to shatter.

But thanks to our handy-dandy coupons from Bed Bath & Beyond, we were able to replace our crystal glass so we have an even set of 8 and we also bought a new French press.  But not the same one, this time we opted for a non-breakable one.

So that’s the story of how Husband and I have broken things in our first year of marriage together.  Sure they all had special meaning, but it’s important for us to remember that they are just things.  It’s more important that we are together…and klutzy together.  And at least we aren’t the superstitious type!!!

Lesson 100-It Was Accidentally on Purpose

Confession: I'm a present snooper.  But he makes me do it!!!

Our One-Year-Aversary is later this month.  I had been thinking about what to get Husband as a gift for some time, trying to get something that falls in the tradition of a 'paper' gift for the first year.  I casually mentioned it to Husband one afternoon, but I didn't have any suggestions for a present for myself.  I guess it wasn't really a productive conversation at all.

Anyways...over Labor Day weekend, Husband told me he had bought my anniversary gift.  My immediate response was "What is it?".  Come on, why even bring it up if we're not going to have a conversation about it?!?!  Then later that same week he told me that we would be getting a UPS package soon and when we do, don't open it.  Why does he do this to me?!?!  Had he said nothing, I never would have thought twice about a package being delivered to the house in his name.  But warning me, taunting me, torturing me like that.  I can't handle it!!!!

That same afternoon as I was pulling into the garage I see it--a UPS envelope sitting in front of the door.  I picked it up and brought it inside.  I set it on the counter in the kitchen.  All the while the darn envelope was taunting me.  So I took a peek at the return address.  It was a website.  Websites can be Googled.  Google loves me.  I love Google.  But I have to be sly about it.  Google from my Blackberry.  That way there is no trace on the computer of my snooping.  Ah ha!!!  Found it!

It's a REALLY good gift.  I'm quite impressed.  And I have the best Husband.  Hands down.  And it even fits in the tradition of a 'paper gift'.  But the bummer is, it makes all my gift ideas beyond lame.  So now I have no idea what to get him!  And it's all Husband's fault for making me snoop.

Friends: if you have any suggestions, please help me out.  The Wife isn't supposed to be the one with the lame anniversary gifts!  And someday I'll tell you how he tortured me with Christmas presents.  Oh, and I'll share with you what he got me...after the One-Year-Aversary.  Hey, somebody's got to be surprised, right?

Lesson 90- Oliver the Terrible

Confession:  I have a naughty puppy.

It’s almost as the older he gets the worse he gets. Initially we would put him in his crate while we were away from the house. This was while he was in the process of potty training. He did really well with potty training and was almost completely accident free after living with us for two months. Our next step was to attach him to his leash so he could wander around a little, but when we would get home in his excitement he would pee while we were taking him off the leash. We decided that he was grown-up enough to stay with his big sister without any restrictions. But then we ended up finding our underwear lying around the house with holes chewed out. After replacing our underwear supply we tried leaving him out but with all doors closed so he only had access to the living room, dining area and kitchen.

This solution worked for a while. Until the day I came home from work and he had pulled the table cloth off the table, taken every throw pillow off every sofa, chewed on the TV remote, chewed up a book and magazine, and scratched a hole in our carpet. Argh!!! This little monster needs to be stopped!

Off to Target we went, in search of a baby gate. He would now be detained in the laundry room. It’s all tile, there’s plenty of space for a little guy to run around and with few objects for destruction. Husband and I spent a good 30 minutes seriously contemplating our baby gate options. We ultimately decided on the cheapest gate. 1) Because it was only $13.00 2) The openings weren’t big enough for him to even fathom squeezing through 3) Did I mention it was only $13.00?

We got home and Husband immediately blocked off the laundry room with our new baby/puppy gate. Sure it made bringing laundry in and out of the room a pain, but it was definitely worth the lack of mayhem otherwise. We all lived in happiness for all of two weeks. Then one Saturday while my parents were visiting we returned home from an outing and Montana greeted us at the door as usual, accompanied by her little brother. I immediately asked Husband why he hadn’t put Little Man away. He had. Well, then how did he get out?

The work week began again. Husband put Oliver in his laundry room, turned, and walked down the hall to the living room. He looked down and had been accompanied by Oliver. He scooped him up and put him back in the laundry room and watched as the little monster jump right over the gate. Great!  We were back at square one. What to do?!

We returned to leaving him out with Montana, closing all doors, and leaving nothing in reach (or so we thought). This was fine till I came home from work and he had scratched another hole in our carpet, chewed on Husband’s X-Box controller and in the process turned the X-Box on and opened the disc drive. Our next solution was locking him up again. We still have his crate.

This is an outdated pic.  It currently is in much worse condition.
But this is where I mention that he’s scratched a hole in it—leaving the crate useless. So off to Petsmart we went, to buy this.

Hopefully this will sufficiently contain Little Man and thus save our house from further destruction.

Coming soon: new flooring!

Has anybody else had a naughty puppy who insists on mimicking Houdini? What house training tricks are tried and true with your little critters? Or are all your pets little angels like our Montana? Please leave your own pet confessions, so I know I’m not the only one with a naughty puppy.

Lesson 85-Lessons Needed

Confession:  I have no self-control

Remember last week, Helena over at Life in the Pitts, had this superb idea of having a little imaginary shopping spree and not buying anything? Well, she must have a heck-of-a-lot more self-control than I, cause that very day I headed back over to the Vera Bradley website and ordered my very own…and this time I did hit the ‘check out’ button. But I just couldn’t resist this beauty. For one, I love Vera Bradley bags. Husband says it looks like Vera Bradley threw-up in our closet. Two, it was part of the ‘Paris Collection’. Hint: if you want to sucker me in to anything just add the word Paris to it and I’m sold. Three, the description likened the bag to something Audrey Hepburn would have used.

Source

Have I ever mentioned that I LOVE her. She is the epitome of grace, elegance, and beauty in my opinion. Four, it was on sale. The combination of these things, how could I not buy the bag?

Me: Can I buy a new purse It’s on sale…40% off
(Please notice I did not tell him the price before or after the discount. I decided the 40% of would sound better without a price. Also, I’m not sure if it really was
40% off—I’m not so good at math, but it seemed close enough that it would be
okay anyways)
Hubs: Yes ma’am
Me: Sweet!!!
Hubs: :)

Out came the debit card and not 5 minutes later had I received an email confirmation in my inbox Hey, at least it wasn’t shoes!

Lessons learned:
  • I must work on self-control.
  • Until I’ve improved my self-control, no more pretend shopping sprees.
  • If I want something, tell Husband the discount, never the price (before or after)
  • After a little math equation the discount was actually closer to 35%
  • Said math equation reminded me how much I truly despise math
