Lesson 70- My Moroccan Dream

Husband and I need to do something with our backyard. In the words of my mother, "It looks like a trailer park" (She's never said this about our backyard, but rather this is how she used to describe her own backyard. I also won't let her see our backyard to avoid any such comments, not that I really think she would say that about our yard). We've been discussing some ideas for what to do while creating a low-maintenance space--neither of us is big on yard work. And who would be really when the average summer temperatures are well over 100*?

I've longed to visit Morocco. Casablanca has held a special place in my heart since I was a kid. I even tried to convince Husband that's where we should honeymoon--with no success. Since it appears as though I'm going to have to wait a while longer to experience the beauty of Northern Africa...I've decided to bring it to my backyard. Here are some pictures I've collected as inspiration. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Stay tuned for updates on what we actually decide to do. Who knows?! Maybe I'll actually make it to Morocco before Morocco makes it to my backyard.

  1. Hi, Do you have a patio or a sprinkler system? It's over 100 here too. I'm in the Valley of Los Angeles and it gets very hot and we have clay soil. My yard has tons of trees so it's harder to find the right kind of trees and I only have sprinkers near the house. Anyways, if I knew more of what you are working with I can give you good ideas. We've done a lot of trial and error in landscaping. :)

  2. I love the idea of going with a Moroccan theme in your backyard! Thinking of Morocco reminded me of a book I read to my kids when they were little, 'Star of Light' by Patricia St. John. I'm pretty sure it took place in Morocco. :-)

I went to your post about your England/Ireland trip. Someday I'd love to go to Ireland, and especially historical sites related to Christianity.

If you go to my blog and click on
ENGLAND on my sidebar tags, it will take you to all my England posts and many more photos. :-)

I noticed your book list. Might I also suggest, 'The Holiness of God' by R.C. Sproul and foregoing 'The Shack.' It's very popular, but full of bad theology. FWIW :-)

  4. Just visiting from Lady Bloggers Tea Party & I love the idea of a Moroccan themed outdoor space. I've actually visited Morocco and their use of fabrics, textures and vibrant colors would make for a very relaxing & welcoming yard.

    Good luck with your project!

  6. Stopping by from New Friend Friday. Those are beautiful photos to gain inspiration from. I'm sure with a little sweat and hard work, your yard will look like a Moroccan oasis :)

I saw on your profile that you live in Phoenix. My hubby and I used to live in Chandler and LOVED it! We really miss it.
